Types of MRI Scan
Closed MRI (standard)
You lie inside a narrow tube. Best image quality. Takes 30-60 minutes. Can be uncomfortable for claustrophobic patients. Most common type.
Open MRI
Open on the sides - much better for claustrophobic or larger patients. Slightly lower image quality. Costs 10-20% more. Not available everywhere.
With contrast (gadolinium)
A dye is injected to highlight blood vessels, tumours, or inflammation. Adds $200-500 / GBP 100-200. Your doctor will specify if needed.
Upright MRI
You sit or stand during the scan. Useful for spine issues that only appear when upright. Very limited availability. Premium pricing.
